February 2025 - Roller Coaster

What a roller coaster of a month. I wasn’t sure what the project was going to be, but it turned out to be a big up and down of a job offer and HR doing what HR does and screwing things up. I ended up with a reorganized office and a new push for control of my path.

Near the start of the month, I was offered to apply for a job written around my experience working with this company as a contractor through my previous company. The interviews went well, and they were happy to have me join. They offered me the job, and I planned to move across the country and sell our house. However, when the lead HR woman got my final paperwork, she rejected the offer because she would not use my existing experience to replace advanced education. I don't know why 7+ years directly in their field and being a contractor for them is less important than extra degrees.

The call came on my first day of travel out there, and that screwed up things, but I made it home, and I went back to undoing what we were planning. My office was empty, so we put in hard flooring and reorganized. I also did some other cleanup.

What this showed is that I need to take more control and not put anything up to people who can screw me. I need to control my projects and find ways to make money off my projects. March will be a month getting back to coding each day on a project that can be something that benefits me more than with experience.

This showed me that I didn’t want to move like I had thought, even for good money, and I must make my own path.
